About Weir

At its completion in November 1913, Korhaans Drift was the largest irrigation scheme in South Africa, designed to irrigate 4 875 morgen (4 176,4 ha) of land. The weir is 286 feet (87,2 m) wide, with two abutments 30 feet
(9,1 m) high from the crest of the weir.

How Korhaan's Weir Serves the Valley

Water for irrigation is released through seven sluice gates built at right angles to the river, and emptied into the main canal, 32 inches (812,8 mm) wide.
